Girls with an interest in playing football are being encouraged to attend sessions run by Ryde Saints Football Club.
Ryde Saints have run girls’ sessions in the past, however for whatever reason, these ended up petering out.
For the 2024-25 season, a total of 8 girls who are playing throughout the club’s mixed teams with others who are training with teams, plus multiple girls who throughout the last 5 years have also played in our mixed teams.
The club have also had a player move from one of its mixed teams, to Portsmouth FC, plus numerous other girls who are playing mainland football for either Island or mainland-based clubs.
This new season, the club is excited to offer girls only sessions, which are open to absolutely any girls in school years 2, 3 or 4 wanting to play football no matter their previous experience or ability.
These sessions will be focused on having fun, learning the game, and allowing the girls to improve at their own rate without any pressure. The sessions will be run by qualified coach with years of experience coaching youth football.
A Ryde Saints spokesperson has said:
“Girls football on the Isle of Wight has grown massively in the last 5/6 years, and we are proud that we are going to be a part of that growth!
“At the same time, we are also offering these new sessions completely FREE for the whole of 2024 to help with the growth of these sessions, and girls football on the Island! Anyone interested, or with any questions they would like to ask, can email me at [email protected] or can message our Facebook page @RydeSaintsFC”.
The first session is this Thursday (26th September) and is to be held at Smallbrook Astro from 18:00 – 19:00
