Ryde Inshore Rescue went to the aid of 2 persons in the water off Lee-on-Solent this morning (Friday).
The volunteer lifeboat crew were initially called into action at just before 10:00 when they were tasked by Solent Coastguard to conduct a search in the area of Wootton Creek. Reports had been received of a yacht anchored up to West of Ryde Pier with no one on board and it was feared they may have fallen overboard.
A search was carried out from Wootton Creak towards the boat, but when nothing was found they returned to the vessel to conduct a more thorough search of the cabin to try and find the identity of the owner, with information passed to Solent Coastguard. The owner was located ashore.
Whilst heading to Cowes for fuel, a second shout came in for the lifeboat crew shortly before 11:30. Ryde Rescue 1 was immediately tasked to aid 2 persons in the water after their dinghy had capsized off the Lee-on-Solent shore.
Upon arrival the upturned dinghy was located just as the 2 occupants were righting it themselves. After quickly capsizing again the casualties were assisted to safety by the lifeboat crew and checked over by Coastguard Rescue Officers from Hillhead Coastguard Rescue Team.
Portsmouth CRT were also tasked to the incident but were stood down en-route.
Ryde Rescue returned to station by 13:15 with the lifeboat washed down and ready for the next shout.
