42-year-old David Dunford has been charged over a recent spate of graffiti spraying in Ryde, with a further arrest made as Police probe other graffiti tagging in Newport and Wootton.
As first reported by Island Echo yesterday (Monday), Police made an arrest on Sunday night after receiving reports of a man spraying graffiti on vehicles in the Ryde area.
Officers were deployed and located a male on The Strand – but Police got a bit more than they bargained for.
A search of their suspect, after he allegedly resisted arrest, revealed he was in possession of a knife.
Now, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that Dunford, of Thornton Manor Drive, has been charged with criminal damage relating to the graffiti in Ryde, possession of a knife in a public place and resisting arrest.
The 42-year-old has also been charged with 4 counts of burglary and going equipped for burglary in relation to break-ins at The Royal Victoria Arcade and Marlborough Road in Ryde. The break-ins are said to have occurred between the early hours of Sunday morning and late evening of the same day.
Dunford has been remanded in custody to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday).
Meanwhile, a 25-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in relation to graffiti incidents in Ryde and across the Island.
He has been bailed with conditions until 21st December while enquiries continue.

The guy is an absolute fruit cake, drugs have turned his head to mush.
He needs locking up for our protection.
I think what you meant to state is that this man has a record of drug abuse and now suffers from severe mental health issues that deem him a danger to himself and others as such he is likely to need to be in a secure environment for the safety of himself and others.
This should serve as a warning to other drug abusers that this is where your life is going.
