A 42-year-old man, a 25-year-old man and an 18-year-old man – all from Ryde – have been arrested in connection with a burglary at The Royal Victoria Arcade in Ryde, during which a number of businesses were broken into.
Island Echo understands that it is believed the thieves broke in through a rear door before ransacking 3 or 4 units within the shopping arcade, getting away with an estimated £4,000 of goods.
The incident occurred sometime between 16:45 on Sunday and 08:15 yesterday morning (Monday).
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary are investigating the matter and have made 3 arrests so far.
As first reported by Island Echo, a 42-year-old man was detained on The Strand in Ryde on Sunday night on suspicion of criminal damage. Police believe he is linked to a spate of graffiti spraying on the Island. The middle-aged man was also arrested on suspicion of burglary as he was found in possession of a number of antiques.
It has now been confirmed that a 25-year-old man and an 18-year-old man have also been arrested on suspicion of burglary, as well as handling stolen goods.
The trio remain in custody.
UPDATE @ 12:39 – 42-year-old David Dunford, of Thornton Manor Drive in Ryde, has been charged with 4 counts of burglary and going equipped for burglary in relation to the break-in at Royal Victoria Arcade, and a further break-in at Marlborough Road.
He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court today (Tuesday).
The 18-year-old man arrested on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods has been bailed until 21st December.
The 25-year-old man, also arrested on suspicion of burglary and handling stolen goods, has also been bailed to the same date whilst enquiries continue. He has been further arrested on suspicion of criminal damage in relation to graffiti incidents in Ryde and across the Island, as reported by Island Echo.
