37-year-old Matthew Oxley has been charged and remanded in custody over the attempted robbery of the Co-Op store on West Street in Ryde at the weekend.
It was on Sunday morning, at just before 10:00, that a male is reported to have walked into the convenience store and threatened staff, demanding they hand over money from the till. Brave staff members refused and the attempted robber left without any goods or money, as first reported by Island Echo.
A 37-year-old male was quickly arrested and taken in for questioning.
Now, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that Matthew James Oxley, 37, of Green Street in Ryde, has been charged with attempted robbery and failing to provide a sample for a Class A drugs test.
He appeared before Portsmouth Magistrates Court this morning (Tuesday) where he was remanded in custody to appear at the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 24th February.
