One of Ryde’s most well-known characters – artist, comedian and social commentator Donna Jones MBE – will be launching her latest collection of upcycled fashions later this month (27th April). Prolific seamstress Donna has been busy over the winter sewing together costumes in her characteristic outlandish styles that have proven hugely popular with previous audiences. 31 models, aged from 6 to 82, will pose in the extraordinary collection of clothes created from over 85 donated jackets. Every item will be available for a donation of £25 to the Isle of Wight Pop Up Soup Kitchen. Donna explained:
“I am passionate about developing women’s confidence through upcycling clothes. Why be ordinary, when you can be extraordinary? “Fashion is for everyone – style is for the individual. “The theme of the event is Paris in the Springtime, so think Moulin Rouge and colour. My challenge to everyone who comes this year is to wear the brightest colours you can – let’s light up the room!”
With live music from local band ‘Clear the Beach’, the event costs only £7 to get in, and is the sixth consecutive year of Donna’s fundraising fashion shows.
