‘A snapshot of the future of healthcare on the Island’ were the words used by a leading Isle of Wight councillor to describe the new Ryde Health and Wellbeing Centre yesterday (Friday).
Councillor Steve Stubbings, Deputy Leader of the Isle of Wight Council and Executive Member for Adult Social Care and Community Wellbeing, was among the staff and guests who yesterday (Friday) were given a preview of the Pellhurst Road building ahead of its official opening to the public on 1st June 2015.
The local community will be able to tour the building at an open day until 14:30 today (Saturday 23 May).
Cllr Stubbings commented:
“It’s absolutely beautiful. The work they have done here is phenomenal. The light streaming in from above, in the atrium area, gives a lovely sense of space; the use of colours is fabulous. I think the reconfiguration has been done very sympathetically and I think it’s got huge potential for making a real contribution to health and wellbeing in the Ryde area.”
Ryde Town Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Ryde, Henry Adams, also attended the visit and said:
“Very impressed, I think it’s a very good facility for Ryde. The facilities were very limited at Swanmore Road, but this is easy to get to, car parking facilities are much easier and I think people will be more relaxed when they get up here.”
The new building will also provide a much better working environment for staff. Jennifer Edgington, Lead Locality Nurse for North East, which includes the Ryde Health and Wellbeing Centre, said:
“It’s really lovely, bright and airy. There is lots of really useful multi-professional working space; it’s a lovely working environment.”
