Ryde Beach Lifeguards completed their annual cross-Solent Swim from Ryde to Gosport last Friday (28th July), raising funds for new equipment.
5 lifeguards completed the 3-mile swim in a time of 1hr 50mins.
Safety cover was provided by Griffin Marine Services with kayakers also supporting each individual wimmer.
Money raised will go to helping to fund new equipment for the Ryde Beach Lifeguards who provide such an essential service for both locals and visitors alike.

Is that the boy from Mad Comic second from the right?
A wimmer? an award winning swimmer maybe? I’m only jesting my grammar is atrocious. My point of writing is to congratulate the young lady and lads for their immense effort to help keep folk such as my family & this community safe. I must say however I am bitter about the fact that our local council do not provide more to the services provided by lifeguards as is evident by the need for fundraising. Our beach is literally the heart of Ryde and more people than ever are staying uk bound for their holibobs, let’s make sure no accidents happen like elsewhere because of lack of funding, lifeguards or equipment. If Ryde is to be a holiday destination the council has a duty to ensure they can maintain it as such.
Holibobs!!! That ludicrous non-word makes my blood boil. Who invented such an atrocity?
