West Wight Road Runners met up for their weekly run earlier this week, but this time decided to turn the usual gathering into a ‘Food Bank Run’. 20 runners met in Freshwater each with items to donate to the Isle of Wight Food Bank, before running to the – with their items – to the local drop-off station at Tesco’s. Once in the store, they all put their food and toiletry donations into the collection point and then carried on with the rest of the evening’s 5.5-mile run. Club Captain Gemma Swain said:
“This is the second time we have done The Food Bank Run. It’s a national movement that began at Fareham Running Club and has now seen over 500 groups take part. “Our club is only small but we all know that any donation makes a difference to the Food Bank. We’d love to see other running clubs on the Island do the same during their club runs.”

Shouldnt happen in this modern age, thats what you get if you vote tory,be workhouses next.
It is ONLY happening as most all the recipients have now, due to inflation, ‘used’ such as an excuse to scrounge without ‘shame’ free food that they would otherwise not have done and spend the money saved on needing to buy such on drugs, fake tans, cars, phones, fake lashes, painted nails, designer clothing or anything else.
As they can now, have their cake and eat it too.
So, with the shame removed, being labelled ” In poverty” a lucrative title now, and sponging the norm, ensuring that inflation due to more Gov benefits and suckers giving them more has not affected them adversely, just the workers who fund hard luck stories.
Classic tory answer, you are tarring everbody with the same brush, its tory cuts that have lead to this, nothing else!
I think most of us agree that there’s too many handouts to too many people who are not truly in need of help.
So, you’re right that it shouldn’t happen in this modern age.
It’s far too easy to live a life on benefits and handouts.
Yes, help those who really need it, but not those who make a lifestyle choice out of living that way.
Well, most IE turdspurters agree.
Not exactly the same as everyone.
Not even close, in fact.
Are you counting yourself among those “turdspurters”?
Well done. Keep up the running & the giving….& the smiles !!!
