Royal Mail has slashed the opening hours for their Ryde sorting office again.
As previously reported by Island Echo back in August 2022, Royal Mail reduced opening hours at the Nicholson Road site from 50 hours a week to 30.
Now, however – as of 10th July – hours have decreased again to just 16 hours a week.
The office will be open between 08:00 – 10:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. On Thursdays, the office will also be open between 16:00 – 18:00.
Opening hours on Saturdays are 08:00 – 12:00, whilst the office doesn’t open on Sundays.
This new change in opening times means that locals are unable to collect or drop off mail after 10:00 on any day of the week – except for Thursdays.
The news means that those who work are unable to collect any missed parcels with ease. Furthermore, businesses that send letters and parcels will either have to post earlier in the day or save the mail until the following morning – adding to the expected delivery time for their customers.
Historically, the sorting office was open for 64 hours a week meaning that its opening times have more than halved over the years.

Again if you work full time unlike the child tax credits 16 hours a week spongers YOU not they have more problems getting there.
Thank god for privatisation. That’s what I always say
Who actually decides the opening hours of the sorting office,
Royal Mail CEO or IW manager.
I was a big supporter of the Royal Mail, but it has really become abysmal in the last few years. From a personal viewpoint, I have either not received mail, or received it months late – some of it has been important and one is left in the position where the people who sent the post think I’m lying, when I say I haven’t received it. It’s another institution that was far better before it became privatised. I feel very sorry for the postal workers.
The Service is no longer the service it use to be.
Post arrives every 7 or 8 days
It took 9 days for an item to arrive that I ordered from the mainland
The tory party, privatised Royal mail.
Vote Conservative, reap the consequences.
Most posties will tell you that management are trying to get rid of letter post as parcel post is the only thing that makes them money. Yet they are making it very difficult to collect or drop off parcels, the very service that is supposedly making them money. At this rate the whole service will go!
Well I guess posties will have to work extra hard and redeliver as many are at work on those times.
I wish I could afford to work those hours . Everything is gradually going downhill. People moan about the old days but we had 3-4 deliveries a day and on time . Now a first class post arrives sometimes after a second class .
No wonder DPD and the other delivery firms are doing so well..
only had two postal deliveries in the last 2 weeks and one of those was a package for couple doors down
A few months ago a new postie was delivering post to my
home and he was about to hand over an handful of post to me with a
completely different address on.
Either he is stupid or needs to go to Specsavers.
What is going on lately, obviously Royal Mail cannot get the staff.
