UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are attending a fire at the Mayfair Hotel in Shanklin this evening (Monday).
Firefighters are using COBRA – a specialist piece of firefighting equipment – to extinguish a small fire that has broke out in the flat roof space of an extension to the hotel on Hope Road.
Emergency services – including the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service – were mobilised to the scene at just before 21:20.
4 fire appliances from Ryde, Shanklin, Ventnor and Newport plus the aerial ladder platform from Ryde are all in attendance.
UPDATE @ 22:10 – The incident has been brought under control leading to crews from Ryde and Newport being stood down. 2 appliances from Shanklin and Ventnor remain in attendance.
A hose reel has been used to quickly control the fire, which has now been fully extinguished using COBRA.
It is thought the hotel was undertaking repairs to the section of building affected earlier today.
The main area of the hotel remains open for business as usual.
No one has been injured in the incident and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have stood down.
UPDATE @ 22:30 – Just 1 appliance now remains on scene as crews prepare to bring the incident to a close.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are expected to leave the scene in the next 15 minutes.
