Those with a spare £2.25million now have the opportunity to snap up Robin Hill Country Park as it is officially listed on the open market with Savills. As previously reported by Island Echo, Vectis Ventures announced at the start of October that they were closing the tourist attraction and placing it up for sale following a prolonged period of financial turbulence. The COVID pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis were also blamed for the decision to close, with poor weather in the past 2 seasons hitting visitor numbers too. The asking price was kept confidential but it has now been revealed that a cool £2.25million will be needed to snap up the Downend-based park, which boasts a 4D motion cinema, a 777-seat amphitheatre, toboggan run, high nets adventure areas and playgrounds. Although Robin Hill is being sold as a going concern, a number of the above-named individual attractions could be transferred to sister park Blackgang Chine in due course. Robin Hill is situated on 88 acres of rolling parkland, natural woodland and countryside gardens. It also benefits from planning consents for holiday accommodation to include 19 tree houses, 23 lodges and 40 glamping tents. Externally, the property provides car parking with 1,500 spaces and 12 coach spaces.
Kay Griffiths, associate director in the leisure and trade-related team at Savills, says:
“Robin Hill offers a unique opportunity to acquire a popular visitor attraction on Isle of Wight. “Tourism in the Isle of Wight amounts to roughly 2.6 million visitors a year, with a spend of over £280 million. The buyer can expect to benefit from the footfall as well as the local population nearing 140,000 people. “This property has strong investment features as well as scope for further development with planning consents already approved, so we expect a high level of interest from a broad range of investors and operators.”
The park was originally opened in 1971, before being bought by Vectis Ventures in the early 1990s. Blackgang Chine continues to operate as normal and will reopen for the season in 2024.
