Police have cordoned off a road and alleyway in Shanklin tonight (Thursday) as officers take up position surrounding a flat in the town.
It was just gone 18:00 that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary first responded to Palmerston Road, although it is unclear as to the nature of the emergency call.
Now, 2 hours later, the road has been cordoned off as Police carry out talks with a male located inside a flat.
Both ends of Palmerston Road have been closed – as has Yarborough Arcade – amid the ongoing Police incident.
A number of response officers are on scene alongside a local Armed Response Unit and Dog Unit.
Unusually, a fire officer has been drafted in and is working with Police on the ground.
UPDATE @ 20:54 – Nearly 3 hours after the incident begun, a male has been arrested by Police.
He left the building of his own accord and was swiftly detained.
The incident is now drawing to a close.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Police have confirmed that a 29-year-old man was arrested during last night’s incident.
