Emergency services are attending a road traffic collision in Arreton this afternoon (Monday), which has led to Downend Road being closed to motorists.
Traffic is extremely heavy in the area with vehicles heading in both directions being turned around.
The incident, which has taken place near the junction with the main Newport to Sandown road, occurred just before 16:00.
Southern Vectis say that customers can expect delays to Route 8 services.
UPDATE @ 17:00 – The road has now been cleared and traffic has returned to normal rush-hour levels.
No one is thought to have been seriously injured in the crash, which occurred near the junction with Burnt House Lane.
The island has become a very dangerous place to drive, its getting worse each day..
That junction really needs a roundabout or something similar it’s very busy and dangerous. Pray the people involved are ok.

Yeh lots of dodgy junctions roads and area’s… avoiding pot holes is treacherous in itself… mix in the drunk uninsured unlicensed idiots and it is becoming a dangerous place to drive
