UPDATED: A road in Sandown has been closed this evening (Wednesday) following the discovery of an unsafe building.
St John’s Road has been closed between the High Street and York Road in the interests of safety over fears a building could collapse into the carriageway.
It is thought that the building in question houses a number of residential properties as well as commercial units, such as the former chip shop ‘Fryer Tucks’.
Businesses on St John’s Road remain open for business, including the barbers, pub, hairdressers and pet shop.
Motorists are being diverted locally. It is currently unknown how long the road closure will remain in place.
UPDATE FRIDAY – Scaffolding has now been erected around the building to help shore it up.
It is currently unknown how long the road will remain closed for.
Businesses are open as normal.
