Wightlink has revealed that it will be running a revised timetable across all 3 of its cross-Solent routes this Autumn during its annual maintenance programme for all 8 of its ships.
More than £5million will be spent on the work, which will see all vessels undertaking dry docking using local contractors where possible, including a team from Wight Shipyard.
The 2022/23 refit programme will start with the Yarmouth-Lymington ferries and there will be fewer sailings midweek on this route from Tuesday 30th August.
When the off-peak timetable comes into operation on Monday 12th September, all of Wightlink’s remaining vessels will in turn be withdrawn from service for refit, ready for Spring/Summer 2023.
John Burrows, Fleet and Operations Director at Wightlink, says:
“Every year, Wightlink embarks on a major investment in the maintenance of our fleet. This year, all of our ships and FastCats will need to be taken out of the water for drydocking so we need to adjust the timetable to achieve this and also allow time for the vessels to reach their refit locations. We apologise if this causes any inconvenience for our customers.”

So well maintained in fact, there are always ‘technical issues’ when a crossing is deemed not financially viable.

Build a bridge!
Build a bridge so that the island can become a dormitory area for London, Portsmouth etc. No thanks. I want my island to remain an island, if you don’t like it return to the mainland.
Don’t worry there will never be a bridge or tunnel connecting us to the mainland.The cost of building it would be astronomical.

If you want a taste of what the island would become with your ridiculous idea of a bridge/tunnel try living on the mainland for a month in areas like Portsmouth, Essex etc as that would give you a taste of what to come over here with your fanciful ideas.
