Red Funnel has announced that its temporary 1-boat Red Jet timetable will continue until at least Wednesday.
Red Jets 6 and 7 have been operating to a normal timetable in recent weeks, but Red Jet 6 was taken out of service for an annual refit last week.
With Red Jet 4 still unavailable due to engine repair works, the Red Jet service is operating with just 1 vessel – putting the service at risk of cancellation should any issues arise.
It was said last week that the revised timetable would end today (Monday), but Red Funnel has now said that is not the case.
Leanna Lakes, Operations Director at Red Funnel, said:
“As a result of ongoing engine repair works to Red Jet 4, we need to temporarily extend our revised Red Jet timetable until Wednesday 30th March. Like many businesses across the UK, we’ve been experiencing supply chain issues, including prolonged delivery of essential parts. The team, supported by our marine contractors, are doing their absolute best to resume our normal Red Jet timetable as quickly and as safely as possible.
“We apologise for any difficulties this may cause to customer journeys and would like to thank them for their patience during this time. We encourage customers to plan ahead by checking the live departures on our website. Customers may also consider using our vehicle ferries as an alternative option, which are currently running to full timetable.”
Revised Temporary Timetable as follows:
Monday 28th to Wednesday 30th March
Depart Southampton: 05:35, 06:55, 08:15, 09:35, 10:55, 12:15, 13:35, 14:55, 16:15, 17:35, 18:55, 20:15, 21:35, 22:55
Depart West Cowes: 06:15, 07:35, 08:55, 10:15, 11:35, 12:55, 14:15, 15:35, 16:55, 18:15, 19:35, 20:55, 22:15, 23:35
This is what happens when profits over service is the aim. You have no backups for when there is an issue. 20 years ago it was easy to come and go from the island. So much so I never booked. Just rocked up, purchased a ticket, and carried on with my day. Now it’s like organising the d-day landings. Have to book weeks in advance, read and check many, ever changing schedules. Build in time to your journey in case of issues and sacrifice a chicken at first light whilst standing on one leg in the hope your boat is not cancelled.
It’ll be exciting to see the chaos when the services of both this and wightlink cannot get people over for the festivals. I mean, its BOUND to happen no?

Iwould have thought that with Red Jet 4 out of action, it would have made sense to hold routine maintenance on Red Jet 6, until Red Jet 4 is available !
