Work to upgrade a section of Castle Street in East Cowes – between Link Road and Well Road – is to begin next month. Due to the nature of the excavation works being undertaken, a 24-hour road closure will be required for the duration of the scheme which is expected to last 5 days. The improvement works are scheduled to begin the week commencing Monday 4th March, timed to coincide with the suspension of the floating bridge when less traffic is expected in the area. While Castle Street is closed to traffic, vehicles will not be able to access York Avenue between Castle Street to the Co-op and Marsh Road. The Link Road one-way system will be reversed to allow traffic back towards Clarence Road – which will be made one-way between York Avenue and School Hill Road in a southerly direction. In addition, parking restrictions will need to be introduced in the northern and southern sections of Clarence Road and the southern side of Yarborough Road to facilitate the movement of larger vehicles and HGVs along the diversion route. An Island Roads spokesperson has said:
“We recognise that these works may cause some inconvenience for residents and businesses, but we hope any disruption will be offset by the long-term improvements we are making. “We have scheduled the works to coincide with the suspension of the floating bridge and before the main holiday season begins to minimise disruption. We have also spoken to businesses in the area – including GKN and Red Funnel – to advise them of the works. “We would like to thank residents in advance for their co-operation and understanding during these works.”
Affected residents will receive letters explaining more about the scheme prior to work starting.

I thought the floating thing was suspended most off the year
Can we not get a dropped curb too?
Having to go in the road and up to red funnel just to cross the road is a joke. The island is so pants for wheelchair users.
24 hours, island roads will take a week to resurface this road England is now known as a third world country, laugh.
