A problem with the aft engine on board Red Funnel’s Red Eagle vehicle ferry has led to the cancellation of at least 4 sailings this evening (Wednesday).
The cross-Solent operator has been forced to pull the 18:00 and 21:00 sailings from Southampton, as well as the 19:30 and 22:30 sailings from East Cowes.
A technical fault is to blame.
It is currently unclear if the problem will result in disruption on the East Cowes-Southampton service tomorrow, especially with 1 of the 3 vessels in dry dock for refit.
Affected customers are being notified and transferred onto alternative sailings.
UPDATE THURSDAY – The 04:30 sailing from Southampton and the 06:00 from East Cowes have both been cancelled this morning due to the ongoing technical fault with Red Eagle’s aft engine.
UPDATE @ 13:54 – It has now been announced by Red Funnel that the 21:00 sailing from Southampton and the 22:30 return from East Cowes have both been cancelled tonight to allow for essential maintenance to Red Osprey – sister vessel to Red Eagle.

I reckon due to excessive Ferry fares it’s a lack of
Customers nothing to do with any engine malarkey!
Any news from Quigley about the Ferry Fares etc,
it’s been over 100 days I am getting tired waiting to
hear what he as to say.
I say build a bridge or Tunnel, cheaper in the long run
and does not suffer engine failure!
You and your king bridge or tunnel..you mental or something??
Why have they a front engine ?? pathetic as usual..
