The sighting of a red flare in the vicinity of Osborne Bay led to a call out for search and rescue teams during the early hours of this morning (Sunday).
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked to conduct a search in the area of Wootton Creek at 01:45 following reports of a distress flare being sighted in the night sky.
Cowes RNLI and Ryde Inshore Rescue were also tasked to launch by Solent Coastguard.
Despite a thorough land and sea search, nothing toward was found and the search and rescue teams were stood down.
