UPDATED: REAR-END CRASH BETWEEN FREELANDER AND DELIVERY VAN CAUSES RYDE TAILBACKS

Traffic is building in an around Ryde’s town centre this afternoon (Friday) as a result of a minor crash between a Land Rover Freelander and Sainsbury’s delivery van. The incident has occurred at the junction of Victoria Road and John Street, resulting in the main road through the centre of town being closed by Police. Island Echo understands the driver of the automatic Freelander suffered a medical episode at the wheel and drove into the back of the Sainsbury’s van, continuing a short distance afterwards. The incident occurred shortly before 15:25. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are assessing the drivers of both vehicles. Traffic is building in the area, in particular on Union Street, Cross Street, Lind Street and West Street. However, Victoria Road is expected to reopen shortly once the van has been moved now the driver is inside an awaiting ambulance. UPDATE @ 16:00 – All roads in the area have now re-opened.
