Strings Bar & Venue in Newport is hosting legendary band The Blockheads this coming Friday (16th February). The iconic band travelled down to the Isle of Wight back in 2022, where a sold-out and excited Strings crowd awaited them. They played 2 hours of their legendary music and still left the packed audience wanting more. To keep the songs of Ian and Derek alive, the band have once again decided to perform a select number of special shows, where they’ll be performing a large selection of their songs spanning over 5 decades. Strings have said:
“Ian Dury and the Blockheads were one of the most popular groups of the New Wave era in the U.K. in the 70s and early 80s. Their eclectic sound was drawn from their many musical influences; these included funk, jazz, rock n roll, soul, and reggae. “Dury’s lyrics were a unique combination of lyrical poetry, wordplay, acute observation of British everyday life, and scatological humour. As The Blockheads, the band continued to play after Dury’s untimely death in 2000. “More legends, more sing-alongs, more heartwarming nostalgia, coming to your doorstep.”
