A large scale power cut is effecting hundreds of properties in the Newport area tonight (Tuesday).
68 postcodes in the Parkhurst, Albany, Camp Hill and Dodnor areas of the county town have lost electricity. This has also led to the traffic lights at St Mary’s Junction going dark.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks are aware of the issue, which began at around 21:47.
Engineers are on their way to assess the situation and restore supplies. It is currently estimated that power will be restored by 01:00.
For further information about this power cut call the dedicated helpline by dialling 105.
Alternatively, you can send SSEN a message on Facebook or Twitter (@ssencommunity).
App: Did you know SSEN also have a mobile phone app where you can report, locate, track and subscribe to faults in your area?

New Year but still the same from SSEN obviously they didn’t like the St Mary’s roundabout going so they cut the power to the traffic lights. Wonder what pearls of wisdom we will get from the oracle.
Drones, iHawks, smart hammers. None of them ‘kept the power flowing’. This is just a new weekly postcode lottery – will we get a power cut in our street or not?
Power actually came back reasonably quickly… in about half an hour. Just gave us time to blow out all the candles and re-set the clocks…. then went off again! (Only momentarily that time but the clock re-setting had to be done again. Yawn.)
I hear all the lights went out at the new St Mary’s junction. Hope everyone is safe.
They did, and there were one or two near misses. Perfectly illustrates why a roundabout, which requires NO power, is the safer option. hang on, didn’t we used to have a roundabout…?
Yes, you are right. Wasn’t it used to fill in potholes somewhere? Or to sure up county hall?
Hope the prisoner are ok must be horrid locked up in the dark
