Rural villages in the West Wight have been hit by a power cut this morning (Monday).
Locations including Brighstone, Atherfield, Calbourne, Wellow and Newbridge are without electricity as a result of a network fault. A total of 85 postcode areas are affected.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks say they are aware of the issue, which hit at 07:34. The incident has been given the reference GS9732.

Power is expected to be restored by 11:00 this morning.

Likely far, far more cuts when thousands more homes are built across the Isle, each taking more and more power from an overstretched supply which doesn’t magically get larger because our housing stock has.
Same with water supply pipelines. Water companies just increase the pressure to increase supply, but old pipes then burst as not made for such an increase, then our bills go up to pay for repairs.
Vote this council out of office for they will ruin this Island with their greedy building agenda.

18.00 estimate no wonder the oracle is so quiet. Obviously he doesn’t know what’s going on otherwise he would be shouting his mouth off like normal. SSEN taken by surprise by people lighting up their houses so early so some areas had to be cut could be the reason

I can remember in September 2014 SSEN proudly announced a new high voltage subsea cable which will make the network more robust and more resilient. Well at the time people were sceptical and 6 years down the line it was obviously an absolute load of BS.

You should put that question to the oracle but he most probably won’t answer although he claims to know everything about the industry

It wasn’t this bad during the seventies when we were called the sick man of Europe, and the unions held the country too ransom every year.
Then we had a three day working week, rubbish pileing up for weeks and power cuts most days.
