Police say they will be patrolling day and night, both overtly and covertly, in a bid to catch the Parkhurst Poisoner.
Last week Island Echo reported that a number of dogs had been taken ill after eating food laced with poison in the area of Marks Corner and Noke Common – one of the entrances to Parkhurst Forest. Furthermore, nails have been found placed behind the wheels of parked vehicles in the area.
Hampshire Constabulary has been investigating the concerning reports, which come less than a year after a similar spate of poisonings in the same area.
It’s now said that Police are working with partner agencies to locate the person responsible for this, with numerous offences identified including causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
Officers are conducting uniform and plain-clothed patrols, both day and night, and are utilising other tactics in their efforts to ensure that this does not happen again.

About time they did, if done it last year when it started he’d have been caught!
The worse thing you’ve done is give “IT” a name!
Now that you have told everyone on the echo the culprit isn’t exactly going to strike again, they will probably up their sick game or move elsewhere to avoid getting caught.
Thank you police for taking action, but I can’t help but think whoever is doing this will probably behave whilst its in the spotlight.
If I had some covert night cameras, I would gladly lend them to you though.
Good idea but you would probably have to put a notice to say cameras were being used to protect the individuals human rights! Such is this country that protects the criminals rather then the victims.
Great that the police are trying to catch this sick individual, or individuals responsible. Announcing the police’s operation through the press, I don’t think will help in catching them. I think this should have been kept quiet then the police would stand a chance of catching the culprit ‘red handed’. The world we live in just seems to get worse, what’s wrong with these ‘people’? I can’t understand what would motivate someone to kill and mame innocent animals and, possibly even young children if they picked up the poison! Who ever is responsible for this is a disgrace to the human race and in my opinion, should be left to rot in prison!
it is clear that someone objects to dogs being in the forest and/or cars being parked where they are and is behind it. The poison and nails are simply tools to deter dog walkers from coming to that area and parking their cars there.
I agree with your comments. Perhaps this person is appauled by the amount of dog mess being left on the ground, maybe? But to leave food laced with poison is pure evil. Wildlife could also be harmed and/or killed. Seriously, this person needs to be caught but I don’t think now it has been announced the Police will catch them in the act. Let’s hope I’m completely wrong.
Theres a use for those nails on the french side of the channel.
what are they teaching at police and detective training these days.
unless I am much mistaken, the element of surprise and ensuring that the criminal does not know the police strategy is a fundamental component of crime prevention and detection.
any self respecting poisoner, will simply lay low or move to another area in the interim, until plod have cleared off and then resume activity at Parkhurst, now that they have broadcast their intentions publicly.
Well now it has been announced I don’t think the person leaving the poison down will be that stupid to do it for a while, surely? Oh, if you are reading this, you are twisted and evil.
Like they once did 30 years ago. Maybe that MP would still be alive if Treason May did not slash the police force by half. If she had done the job asked to do all the issues with brexit will have been sorted 5 years ago. Instead she cut funding and let thousands of these nut jobs in every week.
Some one on the original post said people know who it is, they’ve said they are doing it, i said post up their name and address because the police clearly don’t know who it is and they can be paid a visit by them, and others.
Something doesn’t add up, why would the Police notify any criminal of their plans? Perhaps they know who it is but can’t prove it so they are warning them off.
Don’t agree with putting poison down but people you should clean up after your dog’s you are responsible when I take my kids for a walk they should not have to walk in dog sh– when I go to Firestone the path’s are full off dog c–p
This is not about dog poo. It’s about a seriously sick person who enjoys poisoning family pets and wildlife and leaving them to die in agony. The argument about picking up is no reason for doing anything like this. The person responsible needs catching and dealing with properly as if a child got hold of some it could be classed as attempted murder?!
Also it’s hardly the dogs fault that it’s not picked up but they are the targets. I know what I’d like to do to the person and I’m sure I’m not alone.
It’s the vile excuses for humans fault, not the poor innocent dogs, and innocent wildlife! Surely the nails under their cars were enough, no need to put poison down too,
