Hampshire Constabulary is holding a police recruitment event on the Isle of Wight.
The force has vacancies for a number of different roles in policing here on the Island, and are encouraging people who are interested in joining the police to have a chat to officers and staff.
Members of the public are welcome to drop in to the recruitment event to find out more about what it takes to become part of the policing family.
The event will be held at the Quay Arts Centre in Newport on Saturday 11th June, between 10:00 and 16:00.
Citizens in Policing co-ordinator, Holly Deacon, will also be in attendance to discuss volunteer opportunities such as joining the Special Constabulary or becoming a police cadet leader.
Superintendent Jim Pegler, District Commander for policing on the Isle of Wight, said:
“There are a number of different roles based here on the Isle of Wight that we are looking to recruit into, including Police Constable, Detective Constable, PCSO and Police Staff Investigator.
“If you’re looking for a new challenge and are interested in joining the police, then I’d like to welcome you to the event to meet some of our officers and staff and learn more about a career in the police.”

I recently had the opportunity to speak with some officers regarding the rapid growth of drug crime on the island. In response to my concern over the Police ignoring all my and my neighbour’s reporting drug running going on locally, they told me of their frustration about not being able to tackle this menace.
It seems a lack of personnel is not the only problem, it’s also the policy which does not prioritize this type of crime, despite telling me that the most recent serious crimes, such as murder is all linked to drugs. – it’s a management issue.
Adding more officers, whilst welcome, is not going to be effective enough.

I imagine anyone of non British decent, non straight and with some handicap will be well at the front for recruitment now as seemingly being PC is more important than finding the most suitable person for the job.
Sadly much Police time is wasted on PC issues whilst other crimes seem to take a back seat.
I imagine it is due to the fact that our prisons are full of the worlds vilest, making it hard to put anything but our own home grown vilest vile away now for any meaningful time.
The so called politicians plan of imported cheap labour often comes at a very high cost for us all.
