Police on the Isle of Wight are probing a suspicious incident in Cowes in which a man tried to grab a 10-year-old girl by the arm before speeding off in his van.
The incident is said to have occurred on Fellows Road between 17:00-18:00 on Saturday evening – but the matter has only now come to light after door-to-door enquiries were conducted by Police following an official report to the authority on Monday.
It’s said that the 10-year-old had been playing with friends when she was approached by a man she did not know, who tried to grab her arm. The girl was not hurt and ran off.
The man, described as being bald, drove away in a black van towards Victoria Road.
Officers have been carrying out enquiries in the area and reviewing CCTV to establish what happened.

Police say they have not received any other similar reports in the area.

In fact the number of police officers in the UK has remained surprisingly static over the last twenty years. In 2003 there were 155,000 and last year 164,000. Is this another of those internet myths?

I’m guessing the point that was being made was that it’s often stated online that Tories have ‘halved the number of police offers’ etc, when it simply isn’t true. That lie was trotted out by someone recently in the comments here.
I’ve no love for any politician, but we should really keep to facts and not make things up.
For the record, I think we need far MORE police on the streets, but trying to make out that numbers have been drastically reduced when, in fact, they’re broadly the same is simply disingenuous.

My own experiences have taught me not to have high expectations of Police action – instead, after being a victim of crime, I found them a total letdown.
Perhaps our best hope is through collective action via social media etc..
Probably so many of ‘them’ living on the island. Once they are released from serving their prison time, ‘they’ choose to stay and live on the island. Parents, beware. Don’t let your young children out on their own!
It so sad having to consider not letting your young children out on their own. They are potentially missing out on so many different social interactions with friends which will help them through life.
