Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary is urging locals to ‘Paint it Pink’ in response to recent rural battery thefts on the Isle of Wight. Between 24th and 26th January, large batteries were stolen from rural areas in Cowes, Shorwell, Yarmouth and Brighstone. The Country Watch team will be following up on enquiries into these incidents, but in the meantime, the force is urging rural communities to be aware of ‘Paint it Pink’ advice. Batteries such as those used in vehicles and for electric fences can be a popular choice for thieves, who sell them at scrapyards for their lead content. Battery theft not only puts owners at a financial loss but also, in some cases, this type of crime is a risk to livestock escaping. Ensure thieves don’t want your batteries by painting them pink to make them unmissable! Marking them in this way deters thieves from stealing them as there’s a better chance of detection. You can download the Paint it Pink flyer here.

Theres similar advice for catalytic converters, scrap dealers know what they’re buying when some smackhead turns up with 10 cats/batteries
Paint it pink so the thief can then paint it any colour they like. Hardly an effective deterrent.
A good idea but ten minutes with a jar of paint stripper or taking the lead out and the thief will be weighing it in.?
There is one thief on the island who would be the person responsible for these thefts and he is well documented in court cases in local news stories.
I won’t name him but y’all know who he is.
why pink?
or is that an obvious answer in this woke world these people live in
I was thinking that. Maybe Les**an Nanna has something to do with it?
Because who would paint it pink ! , that’s why, if everyone used one colour, pink, then every scrap yard would ask further questions,at moment only driving licence and debt card. If pink batteries turn up in pile of batteries in the yard and police then turn up yard can say who bought them in. As only get £5-£10 per battery most thieves aren’t going to spend more time trying to remove paint or break down for lead ,as they are after fast turn over.
They will just smash them open and take the led out. Maybe instead it’ll be better for the police to patrol these areas more and catch them in the act. Ah hang on, can’t, the Tories have cut the force so much there are no spare police to do this.
You truly are beyond contempt. I bet you are looking forward to Sir Kneel socialist paradise.
Why? He/she or unknown is only pointing out the blindingly obvious there are not enough Police on The Island and the fault lies squarely at doorstep of number 10 that’s not beyound comtempt unless you were one of the deluded few who voted for good old”pop up Bob”and thought he would do a good job for The Island.
Deluded idiot. I bet you one of those council estate tory morons with no real idea that the government YOU vote for are actually screwing you over too.
They will just smash them open and take the led out
really fred take the LED out – since when did a car battery have a light emitting diode in it – LED.
They most likely end up at Cliftongrade. Or they make fishing weights out of the lead. Either way I bet the toxic contents of the batteries end up being dumped somewhere it shouldn’t be. Every weigh-in of lead should be treated as highly suspect by the metal dealer, maybe ask the seller more questions before agreeing to purchase it? Sooner or later they’ll come a cropper, lead is not worth that much these days so you’d need a lot of it to make any decent money. Maybe it’s junkies with a car, can travel, will steal anything.
As always it is always the victim who has to ‘do’ something, no talk of hidden cameras, no extra Police patrols, but YOU have to paint it pink
So what next, get all lone female to go out wearing chastity belts to prevent being raped, or paint themselves green to avoid the advances of evil pervs?
We pay ever more on our C tax extras for Police yet get ever less, and the onus on any crime is forced onto us
Wouldn’t be so bad IF they jailed the ‘few’ they ever catch, but since mass arrivals, our prisons so full, that that will never again happen except to the very very worse criminals now.
Good thing lead causes cancer…
I’ll be conecting mine to the mains. All these thieving low life scum are claiming benefits and have been given a free house, why are working famillies having to tollerate this shit around us stealing our stuff?
