Police are investigating a single vehicle collision which occurred in Ryde during the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday).
Emergency services were alerted at 00:47 to reports of a collision on Appley Rise, close to the junction with the Esplanade and East Hill Road.
It’s said that an Audi collided with a traffic island, causing damage to the street furniture.
The driver of the vehicle did not remain at the scene.
Hampshire Constabulary say that enquiries are ongoing at this time.
Anyone with information should call Police on 101.
Speeding, drunk, drugged up, no tax, no insurance….take your pick or any combination. Lucky the driver didn’t cause a tragedy, but how many times have we said that recently.

I drive an Audi A5, work in ICU as a doctor and have never had a crash in my Audi. It’s not the car that drives badly, more often than not, I have posy little Golf drivers or Honda drivers overtaking at speeds in excess of 60-70mph on winding narrow back roads while I’m trying to get to hospital. It’s really sad how people think their cars make them look tough, but even sadder that you have to generalise as accidents happen in all types of vehicle, for many reasons. I suggest you visit the library to brush up on your ignorance

Pro bad driver tip. If you crash your car whilst drunk. Run away back home. Wait for police to call. Then claim keys must have been stolen. Up to police to prove otherwise, which they can not. Get away with drink driving.
