The National Police Air Service (NPAS) helicopter from Bournemouth is circling in the skies above Culver Down this evening (Tuesday) as part of an ongoing incident.
Police units have taken up a position at the East Wight beauty spot and are conducting a search of the local area.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service is also in attendance.
The helicopter arrived overhead at around 18:30.
UPDATE @ 19:10 – The NPAS helicopter has departed from the area and is heading back to base in Dorset, however, the incident is still ongoing at this time.
HM Coastguard have now arrived on scene and have rendezvoused with Police.
UPDATE @ 20:40 – Island Echo understands that WightSAR, who were placed on standby, have now also been deployed to assist with the search.
The focus area has moved away from Culver Down.
UPDATE @ 21:20 – The search is ongoing with teams relocated to Yaverland Car Park.
Sandown and Shanklin Independent Lifeboat has joined Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team, Police and WightSAR in the search.
The lifeboat crew are conducting a search up and down The Bay.
Hampshire Constabulary have not yet issued any appeals for information.
UPDATE Wednesday @ 06:10 – Search teams were stood down at midnight after more than 5 hours of searching.
No further information has been made available.
