Police have cordoned off access to the Newport to Island Harbour footpath tonight (Wednesday) following an incident locally.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were called to the scene on the banks of the River Medina, alongside Police officers, at some time before 21:00.
An Ambulance crew and rapid response paramedic were in attendance alongside 3 Police units, but have since left the remote location. Police remain on scene tonight.
Footpath N120 has been closed whilst investigations take place.
Hampshire Constabulary have been approached for a statement with further information expected tomorrow morning.
UPDATE THURSDAY – It has been confirmed that the body of a man in his 30s was found last night.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Police were called to a footpath by the River Medina (to the rear of Medina College) at 8.33pm last night (4 June).
“This followed the discovery of a body of a man aged in his 30s. The man’s next of kin have been informed.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the Coroner”.
