Police have charged 2 shoplifting suspects and made a further 2 arrests following a targeted day of action against retail crime in Newport.
Officers from the Isle of Wight’s District and Neighbourhood Policing team carried out the operation earlier this month, focusing on offences across the town.
As a result, 37-year-old Jade Tigwell, of Godric Road, has been charged with multiple thefts from shops. These include the theft of alcohol worth £114 from Sainsbury’s on Pyle Street, a vacuum cleaner valued at £67 from B&M, and meat items worth £115 from M&S.
Tigwell is due to appear at Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Friday 8th May.
Also charged is 37-year-old Louis Dauncey, of Barton Road, in connection with several shoplifting incidents. These include goods worth £97 from Tesco Express in Newport, flowers worth £12 from Co-Op on High Street, Sandownn and clothing items valued at £65 from Deichmann on South Street, Newport.
Dauncey is scheduled to appear at the same court on Tuesday 12th May.
During the day of action, officers also arrested a 34-year-old man from Sandown at Morrisons on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the legal limit. He has been released under investigation while enquiries continue.
A 27-year-old man from Sandown was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a controlled Class B drug and possession of a bladed article in a public place. He too has been released under investigation as further enquiries are carried out.

Expect to see them leave court with no real punishment, as per usual
Let’s hope they carry out speeding mission targets and
parking on Double Yellow Lines
