The Police and Crime Commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, Donna Jones, has said that she is pleased to see hard-working Police officers recognised with a pay rise.
The Home Office revealed earlier this week that from September, Police officers of all ranks in England and Wales will receive an extra £1,900 – equivalent to a 5% increase overall.
The Commissioner has said the rise is overdue, but welcome, and will benefit those on lower ends of the pay scale.
PCC Jones has said:
“I am pleased the Government has accepted the pay recommendations in full, however I would like to see more recognition of the work police officers do.
“Officers work tirelessly, often in very difficult circumstances, to keep communities safe, and this pay award is the least they deserve for the amazing job they do.
“Police officers, and police staff, have been working in a particularly tough environment the last few years. They have been on the frontline dealing with the pandemic and have gone above and beyond to police our country in exceptional circumstances.”
“Rewarding officers on the lower end of the scale is a step in the right direction, and I hope the increase will go some way towards easing the pressures of the rise in the cost of living.
Article continues below this advertisement “However, I would also like to hear what plans the Government has to ensure police staff are also recognised for their equally important roles.”
The Home Office has said the Government will be part-funding the pay rise and will be supporting forces with an additional £350million over the next 3 years to help cover the associated costs of the pay award, described as supporting a strong and sustained investment to allow policing to deliver.
Commissioner Jones, concluded:
“We need to look at the detail closely, specifically what this means for future plans for the Hampshire Constabulary budget”.
Well done ! Now can we have some, not just 4 , traffic Police on this Island. Firstly to stop those small motorbikes with loud exhaust, next the loud cars, then the IDIOTS that drive/ride around with BLUE or GREEN lights lit on the front of their vehicle.. ( not insured if lit on public roads ) Obvious these people have not read the little book called’ The HIGHWAY CODE
Also the red light jumpers… AMBER light means prepare to stop just before it goes to RED which means STOP, not accelerate quickly through.
That won’t add much to the wage bill considering how few police we have on the Island

If they were paid on commission for solving and preventing crime they wouldn’t earn a penny. They don’t deserve a pay rise.

Well, i think that they already get paid too much, not really hard work compared to other professions, ESPECIALLY on the IW.
Most of them would probably do it for free.

Try doing the job then you numbskull. If you work, which is doubtful as you are a full time keyboard warrior, are you spat at, abused, assaulted or threatened of violence, no of course not. Try putting brain into gear before criticising those that when you are in Need you call and don’t try telling me that they wouldn’t turn up as yes they would to protect you and your family without fear for themselves.

l am not a keyboard warrior and i would have considerd joining plod but they would never have excepted me because of my criminal record and mental health history. I KNOW THAT I AM A GOOD PERSON and that is why i would never have applied to start with, and if i had done, it would have been with the MET and not with the local wooden tops over here. I have got more life experience in my little finger then you and your plod relations put together. (no offence).
Good that they are getting a rise, but we need more of them and to see more of them, especially amongst the traffic.
I could be wrong but I’m sure they were starting police officers on around 25k back in 1996 and before this recent rise it was around 21k start pay. Who would want to do that job for that money?.
erm…..? People with a chip on there shoulder, control freeks, people who were bullyed at school, people with personality dissorders, people who command respect for no reason, mummy boys, lazy people(IW ONLY), people who want decent wages with zero qualifications, people who find it hard to get a girlfriend……ect ect.

I think you’re right I Don’t know where I got 25k from. A copper told me although the start pay is low you could reach 40k in seven years.
What extra have they done to deserve it?

Ha ha, the government asks for pay restraints but give the Police 5% without any hesitation. They which side of their bread is buttered.
We do need to reinstate the same number of traffic policed that we had before Treasona May and Bob removed them all.

So glad Police Officers are to get a pay rise. Despite all the negative comments on this site by people who clearly hold a grudge against the Police, for whatever reason???? I think they do a good job with the resources they have. I certainly wouldn’t want to do their job. These days there are so many violent, drunk, drugged up nutters about!
