A Grade II-listed Georgian property housing vacant office space in the Isle of Wight’s county town could become a 4-bedroom home.
Mr and Ms Couch and Cullen have submitted a change of use application, including minor internal alterations, for Pyle House on Pyle Street in Newport.
Proposals show a master bedroom, 3 other bedrooms – including one with an ensuite, lounge room, dining room, bathroom, kitchen and utility room.
A statement from the applicants’ agent, Leah Mew Architecture, said based on the marketing experience for Pyle House since October 2022, enquiries have mostly been driven by residential interest, with ‘limited and unsuccessful’ office-occupier demand.
It said:
“The design approach retains the principal street-facing elevation, limits external 12 works to like-for-like rear door replacement, and provides appropriate residential accommodation and private amenity space,
“The proposals safeguard neighbouring amenity and incorporate an access strategy that responds to the constraints of the historic building.
“The scheme preserves the significance of the Grade II listed building and the character and appearance of the Newport Conservation Area.”
County Hall’s public consultation on proposal 26/00474/FUL finishes on 11th May and a decision is scheduled for 4th June.

We are all gods children.
Islam will not show you the same respect. You need to wake up and realise that. We’ve got enough r*pists and PDFs on the island without inviting the depths of the third world.
