Phoenix Choir is to perform at Aspire in Ryde this month in a fundraising concert for the popular community hub. Next Saturday (13th April), the choir will visit what, back in 2012, was Holy Trinity Church and is now Aspire – a successful award-winning community hub and registered charity that has since 2014 provided a variety of services to not just residents of Ryde. Amongst its many activities, Aspire supplies community lunches to volunteers and members of the community, and the choir will be performing to support the funding of this facility. Robin Burnett, Musical Director for the choir said:
“In 2012 we held a concert in the church. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the acoustics of the building were superb and this added to our enjoyment of the evening. We are very happy to return again, not only to help Aspire in a small way, but also to hear the wonderful acoustics again.”
The choir will be singing a variety of songs from different genres – musicals, films, folk songs, country, and even a sea shanty – and also numbers made famous by Abba, Steeleye Span, Il Divo, Patsy Cline, Bryan Adams, Andrea Bocelli, Jim Reeves and the Beatles! This is the choir’s first concert since singing with Russell Watson at the end of 2023. The performance commences at 19:00, entry is free, with a retiring collection. A raffle and interval refreshments will be available.
