After a 2-and-a-half year sabbatical, The Phoenix Choir has announced that the group will return to performing again on Saturday 2nd April.
The COVID pandemic resulted in all 2020 concerts being cancelled and 2021 options did not come to fruition due to further lockdown restrictions.
The number of choir members has decreased over that period due mainly to retirements and members leaving the Island, but the sound of music will continue to echo out when the choir appears at East Cowes Town Hall next month.
The 2nd April concert is being held in aid of the East Cowes Methodist Church organ fund. The organ is 100 years old and the necessary refurbishment requires transportation to the mainland, resulting in travel and associated costs.
2022’s concert programmes will include a large percentage of songs that are new to the choir and will again encompass the same eclectic mix of tunes from musicals, films and other popular numbers.
The choir was established in 2009 and to date has raised more than £50,000 for local good causes and charities.
There are opportunities to join the choir in both the Alto and Bass sections. Those interested should be able to either read or closely follow music. Contact the Musical Director for further details by emailing [email protected].
