A person in the water reported to be in difficulty resulted in a call out for Cowes RNLI lifeboat this afternoon (Thursday).
Volunteers were paged at 13:53 to launch the Atlantic 85 class lifeboat to Gurnard, where a person in the sea was said to be in trouble.
Before the lifeboat could launch the team was stood down as the individual had been successfully assisted ashore by members of the public.
Islanders are being urged to stay away from the sea during this time of crisis.

Idiots… need to remember how many people get involved when 1 person on trouble. Should be social distancing hard to do if in same boat or helicopter & ambulance. Have a thought people.
Probably safer than riding a bike on the road, statisticaly speaking.
Sharon, rudeness always a strong point?
I can’t believe people are still being so selfish
Is the person being fined ?
None of us know the circumstances, to pass judgement.
We don’t need to know………STAY AT HOME was the instruction to all !
The wich hunting continues eh
Perhaps this person under house arrest got sick to death of tv advertising stay at home…save the NHS blah blah……torture
I’m glad I don’t have a tv, at least I don’t have to endure a load of adverts.
