Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) Donna Jones has named Alexis Boon as her proposed appointment for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary’s next Chief Constable.
Alexis is currently Deputy Assistant Commissioner with the Metropolitan Police.
PCC Donna Jones said:
“After a comprehensive selection process I am delighted to announce Alexis Boon as my preferred candidate to be appointed as the next Chief Constable of Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary.
“Alexis is a highly experienced senior police officer who has worked his way up the ranks – from Constable to leading Counter Terrorism operations across the UK and running the Flying Squad.
“Now as Deputy Assistant Commissioner for local policing, he leads over 20,000 officers and staff in London.
“I am very much looking forward to working closely with Alexis to deliver on my Police and Crime Plan and to lead the force with strength, integrity, and commitment to providing an outstanding service to the public.”
The appointment is subject to a confirmation hearing by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police and Crime Panel who will review the Commissioner’s proposed appointment.
The hearing is expected to take place on Tuesday 24th June.
Who is Alexis Boon?
Alexis Boon started his career with Surrey Police in 1998, undertaking uniform and detective duties as a Constable and Sergeant.
He then transferred to the Metropolitan Police where he worked his way up the ranks before moving to the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
During this time he led the strategic response to terrorism associated with the conflict in Syria and led hundreds of Counter Terrorism and national security operations across the UK and internationally, including mitigation of high threat terrorist attack planning.
Between 2017 and 2020 he oversaw the operational CT policing response to the terrorist attacks in London and overseas involving British nationals.
In June 2021 he was appointed temporary Commander for Central Specialist Crime, running specialist crime and proactive capabilities including the Flying Squad.
He was also awarded the QPM for distinguished service in the 2021 Queen’s birthday honours.
On promotion to substantive Commander he led local policing in south London; with responsibility for leading 7,500 officers, numerous high profile critical incidents and performance.
As Deputy Assistant Commissioner for local policing, he leads over 20,000 officers and staff in local policing on the 12 Basic Command Units in London. Alexis is also an accredited Multi-Agency Gold Commander.
Alexis Boon was chosen following an intensive formal application and interview process, in accordance with national regulations.
From the MET they haven’t the best reputation but time will tell
Doesn’t hurt to have fresh ideas, at least he brings
mainland knowledge and the Met are the countries
largest police force.

When the top ranks in the Met cannot get rid of the scum in their ranks, then blame the government for being so weak and wishy washy by not letting the top brass do their jobs in getting rid of the dross.
Sounds like the perfect choice, the island needs someone
with Met experience.
Should be able to tackle the speeding problem on the

Crap, the island will be left out and only the mainland will get any extra help with policing. Nice waffling with no substance.
Give the bloke a chance, he isn’t even in the job yet. He sounds a good choice as he has worked hard to go through all the ranks to get where he is. He is not one of these officers that come straight from university and think that they know it all and actually know bugger all. He is well grounded and knows the job first hand and not scared of hard work. You never know, he might be just what Hampshire and the Isle of Wight need.
Another waste of public money, the last one never done anything for this island. Does this one also live on the mainland. I suspect this is just a sideways move to get rid of him from the Met.
