The Isle of Wight Council says it has hit the pause button in respect of moving forward with the controversial Draft Island Planning Strategy.
Since the publication of the strategy, questions have been raised by local residents, organisations and town councils.
The local authority says that for this reason, Cabinet will be pausing the current process to allow further consideration of the plan to take place.
Once approved, the strategy will be the council’s planning guide, setting policies it will have to follow for the next 15 years.
The Cabinet meeting scheduled for Thursday (14th April) and Extraordinary Full Council on 20th April have been cancelled as the strategy was the only agenda item for consideration at both meetings.

It’s about time that the Island became a National Park.
Why bother, it will only end up getting vandalised.
If only……………………..
IW Council are betweena rock and a hard place: one the one hand, Bozo and his clowns are demandningmore houses in an attempt to hide decades of indolence, under threat of even further reduction of financial support, while local electors reasonably require demonstration of both need and supporting infrastructure.
Whatever IW Council does, it will bite them (and us) in the a*se.
Sounds to me, like the council are running scared.
It’s not a plan, it’s not a strategy. There isn’t one. It’s just a list of developments which the developers’ want to do.
The council needs to outline clear ‘red lines’ for developers on greenfield, second homes, holiday lets, and affordable housing (for locals). Until they do that it’s just wishy-washy nonsense that doesn’t please anyone.
Should never have sold off council houses!!!!!!
There will unfortunately always be a them and us society!!!!!!
We should be able to look after our own 1st and foremost….
Until you live ona/the island you can’t understand the infrastructure etc …
The Government needs a wake up call….
Come on Bob Seely show you’re hand !!!! And face no sign of you for a long time??????? Why ?????
Maybe, but there are many ordinary people/families years ago that were able to own their own homes and improve their lives, but agree successive governments have not reinvested in new social housing anywhere near enough.
and not a mention of how they plan to get more dentists, doctors etc from.
Any more houses are an over development, end of.
Wait until AFTER the next General Election. I really hope the Conservatives don’t get re-elected to run the country, so bloody useless Boris Johnson and all his cronies will be out. So will his ‘build, build, build’ statement!
Leave the Isle of Wight alone. No more building.
If anyone actually bothers to read the SLEP’s IIIP report you will discover that the island is doomed to become a ghetto for retirees from the mainland with many of our young people compelled to move away to the mainland if they aspire to home ownership and modern living standards or otherwise be restricted to the low wage jobs which the island has in abundance.
