UPDATED: Passengers and vehicles are stuck at sea and traffic is becoming problematic as a result of a technical issue with Wightlink’s Fishbourne-Portsmouth car ferry service this afternoon (Sunday).
Island Echo is told that there is an issue with the hydraulics relating to the St Clare ferry and the linkspan at Fishbourne, meaning the vessel is unable to properly dock to allow those on board to disembark.
As well as 1 hour delays to the cross-Solent service, traffic is backing up at the Fishbourne terminal meaning delays in and around the area of Fishbourne and Kite Hill.
Wightlink say their engineers are working hard to fix the problem.
The Island’s MP, Bob Seely, has said via Twitter:
“Really unacceptable, especially on a Bank. Holiday Weekend. Does Wightlink want to be part of the problem or the solution?”.
UPDATE @ 17:25 – The hydraulic ramp has now been fixed and passengers have disembarked the St Clare, however, delays of 45 minutes continue to effect the route.
