Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are tending to an elderly male driver following a crash in Sandown.
The incident, involving a Renault Scenic, has occurred at Avenue Road. The vehicle has collided into the brick wall of the railway bridge.
It’s unclear if any other vehicles have been involved in the collision, which occurred shortly before 16:15.
Police are directing traffic past the scene but tailbacks are forming as rush hour approaches.
UPDATE – It has been confirmed that a second vehicle was involved in the incident.
No significant injuries have been reported, but 1 patient has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.

Wait for excuse
Troll!
Let’s hope it hasn’t damaged the railway supports or we will never get to see this brand new train running.
Hope the poor fella is ok…
There are some shocking drivers on the Island.
For their own safety and for the safety of other persons
They should have a yearly test with an Advanced driver.
Far too many accidents are occurring!
Hope the Gentleman is well.
Totally agree John. Regular testing is the best way to ensure drivers are at least *able* to meet the minimum standards expected, in order to share the roads with other drivers.
I was driving along Sandown Road toward Sandown today with two kids in the back, when some white van driver pulled out of Culver Down Road, doing an illegal right turn. If I hadn’t taken care to slow down before that side road I would have ploughed right into the side of him. Some people engage their brains, other dont seem to have one.
Having said all that I wouldn’t speculate on what the cause of this latest accident was, but just hope he’s not hurt.
It’s like the no right hand turn sign near the Bull Ring in Brading.
If I had a £1 each time a driver turned right I would be rich.
Easy answer to that problem and Culver is to install CAMERA’S then issue fines.
Donate the fines to the NHS
FAR TOO MANY MOTORISTS IGNORE THE HIGHWAY CODE RULES.
I don’t know about you but the amount of street furniture / signs (clutter) is getting ridiculous. The no right turn at the bull ring is confusing at fist glance.some drivers think it’s for west street & go up the mall & some think it’s the mall & turn into west st.
Who are the driver examiners who are passing these learner drivers ?
Have they checked the safety of the bridge supports? It was hit by a lorry recently.
