An issue with the PA system aboard St Clare is causing delays of up to 80 minute delays on Wightlink’s Fishbourne – Portsmouth vehicle ferry this afternoon (Wednesday).
As a result of the issue, the ship has been pulled from service whilst the issue is fixed.
Booked customers are advised to check-in for their original booking time. All booked customers will be accommodated on the next available sailing.
Earlier today there were significant delays on the cross-Solent operators FastCat service following a medical emergency at Portsmouth Harbour.
A Wightlink spokesperson has said:
“We understand this may cause some disruption, and we truly appreciate your patience.”
I could understand if the toaster wasn’t working,
but the PA system, what next!!
That’s an even more pathetic excuse than the elusive missing crew member. Perhaps we should start a go fund me page for poor Wightlink shareholders who can’t afford to buy a couple of megaphones for their crew to try a bit of ‘ do it yourself ‘ safety announcements!
Dinghy’s are crossing the channel everyday with no

Just employ someone with a big mouth, there are plenty

when they shout out)

Doubtless it’s in the rules – safety at sea and all that.
However, we are so accustomed now to overbearing safety considerations, usually with some justification. Anyone still around who remembers the days when we only had a landline phone at home – if we were lucky – a phone box down the road if not! Now we feel uncomfortable if we dare to leave the house without our smartphone.
I don’t know why they call them smartphones,
most days you see Numpty’s driving in their vehicles
using them.
They can’t leave them alone for 5 minutes.
I would imagine that the PA system is linked to other emergency systems and is at the heart of every emergency protocol. There is more to this than simply wishing passengers a comfortable crossing.
