The community of Ryde has been reflecting on the sad news over the weekend that former Town Crier Steve King has died.
Steve, who had proudly championed Ryde throughout his life, passed away on Saturday.
He had been the Town Crier in Ryde for some 10 years before being told his services were no longer required, taking up short stints in Southampton and Yarmouth afterwards before returning to Ryde. He retired in December 2021.
During his tenure, Steve had been seen front and centre of the town’s many carnivals and parades, as well taking his place in the High Street to make important announcements such as the declaration of a new store opening, or announcing the Queen’s birthday.
