A car has rolled and come to rest on its side following a serious collision with another vehicle on the main Newport to Yarmouth road this afternoon (Sunday). Emergency services are currently responding to the 2-car crash on the A3054 Yarmouth Road. Island Echo is told that the collision has involved 2 vehicles – a Fiat Punto and a Toyota Yaris. The Yaris has sustained significant front-end damage, whilst the Punto has rolled and has seen a front wheel ripped clean from chassis. Amazingly, the occupants of both vehicles have been able to walk away from the wreckages and are now being tended to by paramedics, who were called to the scene at around 14:50. The road is closed in both directions with motorists advised to divert via Middle Road.
UPDATE @ 15:30 – The female driver of the Fiat has been conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital, although she has escaped any serious injury. A male and female in the Yaris are being checked over by medics. It’s understood the Yaris left the carriageway, hitting the verge before then coming back across the road and colliding almost head-on into the Punto, which was travelling towards Yarmouth. UPDATE @ 17:30 – The road has now reopened. It has been confirmed that 3 persons sustained minor injuries.
