Ryde Saints’ Veterans team have arrived back home with some silverware after competing in the annual Jersey Veterans football tournament.
This year’s squad was made up of current and past Ryde Saints players and managers.
This is now the 3rd time the team has travelled to play in this competitive event that fields teams that compete in the Channel Islands and other regions of the UK.
Saints started the tournament slow with a loss but picked up to win their remaining group games, qualifying for the semi-final.
They cruised through the semis before facing Sporting Kitz from the West London Premier League in the final. Despite a good battle and some great chances, Saints were down to one substitute with more and more players getting injured as the day progressed.
Unfortunately, the Saints ended runners-up and were awarded a nice runners-up trophy along with a second bit of silver for golden boot winner David Dempster.
On the Sunday, with help of painkillers and muscle rub, Saints played a friendly against Wednesday Night FC who are a group who play football social with the focus of improving and raising awareness for mental health.
