Cash and alcohol have been stolen and a recently refurbished function room was damaged at a popular pub in Newport overnight after intruders broke in.
The team at The Castle Inn on Newport’s High Street have taken to social media to express their frustration at the situation. As well as the theft of an undisclosed amount of cash and alcohol, considerable damage has been caused to the function room – although the damage is minimal to what it could have been.
It’s thought that the break-in occurred sometime between 23:30 last night and 06:30 this morning (Tuesday).
CCTV footage is now being reviewed in a bid to identify those behind the criminal damage. Police have been informed.
The team at The Castle Inn have said:
“As a small family run business, this is a setback we can’t afford, so we would like to find out who needs to be held accountable for the damages, any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated!
“Did anyone witness anything suspicious near the pub or in the areas surrounding between the hours of 11:30pm-6:30am? If anyone has any information or thinks they saw/heard anything suspicious between these times, we urge you to please get in contact with us.
“As you can all imagine this is absolutely devastating for us all to be greeted with, due to this I’m sure you will understand that the pub may be open later than usual today”.
The pub can be contacted on 01983 522528 or via Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Castleinniow.
Sorry to hear this. It’s a shame. Hope it won’t set them back too much. A nice old building.
What a shame the ghost didn’t come out to scare them off.
Why is cash always left on premises to take. Surely you would empty the tills
It says nothing of it being left in a till but good input there buddy
Dosen’t say it wasn’t buddy.
