More than £6,000 has been raised to support 19-year-old Cassidy Ley in her final months, as doctors confirm the selfless and resilient teenager has entered end-stage heart failure. Cassidy, from Ventnor, suffers from a plethora of painful, terminal medical conditions including dilated cardiomyopathy, ventricular tachycardia, chronic fatigue and a rare, terminal skin condition. Sadly, it has been confirmed that the 19-year-old is now receiving palliative care with doctors saying she has only 6-12 months left to live. The news has come suddenly for Cassidy and her family. To make her final months as comfortable as possible, a GoFundMe has been established by Cassidy’s cousin, Jodie Lacey, to purchase specialist equipment – and to ensure that family and friends create lifelong memories together with her. To date, £6,026 has been raised thanks to donations from 272 people – you can donate yourself at https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-cassidys-journey.
Speaking about the fundraiser, Jodie has said:
“Cassidy is the most selfless young lady and never ceases to amaze me with her smile, strength and resilience to all that she has had to endure since birth. Her family and friends really want her to enjoy the time she has left and to create lifelong memories together. “Cassidy loves trips to the theatre, dining out and having as much fun as she can. She would love to travel but its not possible without very expensive insurance and assistance. “As her condition deteriorates further she will also need help towards medical equipment allowing her to remain at home for as long as possible so she can have visitors throughout. Any help would go towards funding a new made to measure wheelchair and a special medical bed. “Cassidy has such complex health issues and is an inspiration to us all on how she has embraced her life so far, even volunteering at the local children’s centre. “This sudden news has impacted us all and I would love for Cassidy to be able to just do some really lovely fun things with her family and for her not to worry about anything she may need over the coming months. “I know she also would like to leave a legacy to other young adults that are terminally ill on the Isle of Wight as there are limited resources available. “Every penny raised or indeed any experience, voucher, tickets, or offer of help will ensure a happier ending for Cassidy”.

Let me guess the driver was old and didn’t know what to do
Grow up son!
he can’t grow up, he has to have a brain to do that and it is not his turn for the single family brain cell.

Instant imprisonment fleeing the scene of an accident
Get his details from his registration number and bang him up.
Why flee the scene of an accident if not guilty of drink or drug
driving!!
It is about time the law got tough on motorists
“Get his details from his registration number and bang him up”
What if it was stolen ? (or should the victim of the theft be banged up for letting someone steal his car ?)
ye right don’t on knife crime..
What a pointless statement in the face of Tory Brittan where cutting funding is the name of the game. The only people that matter are the mega rich and their corporations. Your plan, which is obvious, relies on us having a police force and a prison service. Time to wake up, we’re a 3rd world country, we don’t get nice things anymore because the government and their mates are stealing all the money.
Adverse weather conditions?
Quashqai??? Lazy journalism as per
We all knew what it was; I didn’t notice a fault, only petty criticism.
So got a ‘U’ we all know that’s it’s a Nissen. Wonder if it was a red Mini ?.
No, Freddie, we DON’T “all know that’s it’s a Nissen”! Most of us do know however that it’s a NISSAN,
Since the use of seat belts and air bags more selfish reckless drivers are able to just run away from their self inflicted accidents.
Wasn’t so easy years ago when your head was filled with broken glass and the steering wheel was embedded into your chest cavity.
I guess the knowledge and sense of security makes such people drive more wildly, knowing that the worst can happen is a car which may not be paid for, or stolen or not taxed insured or mot will be wrecked, but easy to steal another.
With little or no punishment IF caught, then why should they ‘worry’
Cowards.
There could of been people in need of help in other motor, including children….. and they ran.
Gutless.
Sweet. Drive it like you stole it then run off if you have a smash quality. My damage rating 8/10 (pictures on iowcp website). More soon please mind you probably won’t have to wait long.
Qashqai front end damage, Mini rear end damage, looks like Susan forgot her glasses and spooked 2 drug runners
Why run when it’s only a slap on the wrist when they catch up with you?
More old drivers will be along soon
Ahh the old woke up and my car was stolen trick. Better than getting caught driving whilst off your nut DUI.
Well done to the police. Expect judge will issue a small rebuke. Social services will be on standby with computer games and holidays for the offender.
idiots like him are going to make my daughter’s insurance sky high thanks! Then give him bail well done.
I know cassidy from ability dogs she always has a smile on her face and is an inspiration to us all, very friendly and kind young lady.
