Coffee – the donkey with the distinctive ‘opera singing’ bray – has sadly departed the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary for pastures new. She was in her mid-30s when she passed away. and was said to have been loved by very, many people. Her distinctive bray was heard when she felt her dinner was a bit late. Coffee had a distinctive appearance with white eyebrows. She was 1 of the few donkeys at the Sanctuary that wore shoes. Her shoes helped her with chronic laminitis. She had several medical conditions for which she has been receiving care for over several years. Coffee was said to have loved watching Bianca – the Donkey Sanctuary physiotherapist – carry out physiotherapy on other donkeys and tried to get involved. She was a great friend to Nick – who is partially sighted – providing him with the stability and companionship that he needed. The Donkey Sanctuary have said:
“Surrounded by those who cared deeply for her, together with our vets, we helped Coffee to pass peacefully. “It is always difficult losing any of our beloved animals and Coffee will be greatly missed. “All of our donkeys end their days here at the Sanctuary, and we ensure all of our animals receive the highest standard of care.”
