NOTHING FOUND IN SEARCH FOR YACHT OFF THE ISLE OF WIGHT

Published at:

Bembridge RNLI’s All-Weather Lifeboat, Coastguard Rescue 175, the Royal Navy and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor have been involved in the search for a yacht off the east coast of the Isle of Wight.

Solent Coastguard requested the launch of Bembridge Lifeboat at 15:30 to conduct a search for the boat ‘Sunbeam III’, which was possibly lost in the fog 5 nautical miles South East of Bembridge Lifeboat Station.

The tasking came after a Pan Pan call – a type of emergency broadcast – was relayed by a Royal Navy warship.

It did not take long for the volunteer crew of Bembridge’s All Weather Lifeboat to reach the start of the search area. Visibility was poor with drizzle and a F5 WSW breeze.

Having completed the required search pattern without spotting anything of significance, the ‘Alfred Albert Williams’ was requested to complete a shore line search from Luccombe to Culver Down and subsequently 1nm to the South. The lifeboat was stood down at 18:10.

Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team and Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team have also been involved in the search, from the shore, with the Coastguard Rescue Helicopter from Lee-on-Solent also assisting in the SAR operation.

HM Coastguard have issued a request for information and have confirmed that no further communications have been received since the initial Pan Pan.
