Island Line’s service between Ryde and Shanklin has been suspended this morning (Monday) due to mindless vandalism.
Those trying to get to work and school are having to hop onto bus services due to all services being cancelled.
Island Line was already down to just 1 train and was running a revised timetable accordingly. However, overnight persons unknown have graffitied the last remaining unit meaning that it has been withdrawn from service.
Until the graffiti can be removed the train will be unable to enter service.
Disruption is expected until 09:00.
But don’t all the SJW’s who defend the ‘bored kids with nothing else to do’ say it’s a victimless crime?
It’s about time they held parents responsible. Respect begins at home!
The social problem of vandalism, which despoils our country, is dealt with so lightly by the authorities. It’s not treated as a serious crime, so there is little deterrent.
There is a lot to be said for compulsory national service to be re-introduced, or even community service once youngsters reach a certain age. It might instill some pride and self respect, which some clearly lack at present.
It upsets me to see vandalism as it shows such disrespect to everyone, as well as defacing the environment..

a bit of graffiti would probably cover up 80 years of rust and delapidation. Perhaps island graffiti artists should be paid to paint the rolling stock in dinosaurs again instead of the dull red and grey crap which they only used on the underground because no-one could see it in the tunnels.
As is usual, Island Line was down to just one two-car train. I do not condone vandalism in any way, but Island Line appear to have been negligent in not protecting their only running unit by putting it back in it’s shed overnight and securing it. In the unlikely event that the culprit is caught, a suitable punishment would be making them paint the entire train, something the owner is often reluctant to do.
I just cannot understand why ‘people’ want to destroy things.. Nothing pretty about obscene graffiti let alone those that are tagging things already in Ryde… This is not USA.. If you do not like it here please leave. We pay council tax to be able to have roadside furniture, street signs, benches to SIT on… parks and other places of interest, but real brainy people want to destroy these.. {causing taxes etc. to rise even higher.} WHY Do They Do It.. ? ?
